Kenton County Jail Roster Overview
The official Kenton County inmate records path is JailTracker, linked from the KCDC inmate information hub and from the Kenton County Sheriff current-inmates page. KCDC calls the link "Inmate Population" and describes it as a list of all current inmates at the detention center. The sheriff page does not host a separate roster. It sends users to JailTracker and the detention center site.
Kenton County Detention Center is operated by the elected Kenton County Jailer, Marc Fields. That is different from the sheriff's office, which handles separate records, court services, civil process, and warrant instructions. For a current custody question, start with KCDC and JailTracker. For sheriff records, use the sheriff's open-records custodian. For court filings after the jail arrest, use the Kentucky Court of Justice and Kenton Circuit Clerk.

The roster is the county custody starting point, but its own disclaimer says users should contact the facility before relying on a listed fact as complete or final.
Use Kenton County JailTracker
JailTracker works best when the search starts broad and narrows only after results appear. A last name is often enough. First name, middle name, intake dates, release dates, offender ID, permanent ID, type, and agency fields can help when the person has a common name or when the question is tied to a specific booking window.
- Open JailTracker from KCDC's inmate information page or the sheriff current-inmates page.
- Search by last name, then add first or middle name if the list is too broad.
- Use intake date range for recent bookings and release date range for released-search questions when enabled.
- Open the detail view for status, identifiers, intake or release dates, and photo availability.
- Call KCDC at 859-363-2400 before posting bond, scheduling travel, or assuming a person is still in custody.
Jail records can change fast. Booking, court hearing, bond, transfer, release, medical placement, or ICE action may alter a record after it first appears. KCDC's annual report also describes a Population Coordinator and classification process that can move inmates to treatment, home incarceration, medical facilities, other correctional facilities, or work programs.

It still shows the record types that may appear when KCDC makes them available in the roster.

Kenton County Custody Systems
A Kenton County inmate records search can fail when the wrong system is used. KCDC JailTracker covers people housed at the detention center. Kentucky KOOL covers state-supervised people and warns that newer offender data may not be finalized for 120 days. BOP covers federal inmates from 1982 forward. ICE's locator covers immigration detainees.

Kenton County Jail Contact
KCDC is the single official county detention facility found in the research file. It houses county, state, federal, and ICE populations, and the ICE facility page says detainee information for people housed there may be requested by calling KCDC at any time. Use the jail for custody questions, not the courthouse or sheriff counter, unless the question is about a court record or sheriff record.

Kenton County Visitation Schedule
KCDC visitation is video-based and scheduled online through Combined Public Communications. Visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance, and the jail warns that visiting hours may change without prior notice. Dorm assignment matters, so confirm the dorm and schedule after the inmate record is found.
The official KCDC visitation page lists the schedule by dorm group.
The schedule is tied to housing location, so a roster lookup may still need a phone confirmation before a visit is scheduled.

Kenton County Mail and Funds
After a Kenton County inmate record is found, mail and account details must match KCDC rules. Starting August 15, 2025, standard non-legal friends and family mail goes to the Highland Heights processing address and must be a pre-stamped postal postcard. Legal mail still goes to the Decker Crane Lane facility address. Inmate name and ID are required, which is one reason the roster or jail phone line matters.

Kenton County Booking Records Request
When a needed booking record is not visible in JailTracker, start with the agency that maintains the record. Kentucky's open-records law gives inspection rights subject to exemptions, and KRS 61.880 sets a five-working-day response framework. The Kenton County Sheriff open-records page lists records custodian Jerome D. Knochelmann and accepts requests by email, mail or hand delivery, and fax. Regular noncommercial photocopies are listed at $0.10 per page, with actual costs for color copies, CDs, and mailing.
Court records are different. After booking, District Criminal/Traffic handles misdemeanors, violations, traffic cases, and felonies before grand jury, while Circuit Civil/Criminal handles felony criminal cases. For court charges and docket dates, use the Kenton Circuit Clerk and Kentucky Court of Justice channels rather than the jail roster.
VINELink is also useful when the main need is notification rather than a copy of a record. KDOC says VINE covers county jails, prisons, mental health facilities, and juvenile detention centers, with alerts for release, transfer, escape, and parole-hearing events. It should be paired with the roster, not substituted for a record request, because notifications do not show every booking field, court filing, photo, charge update, mail rule, bond detail, or active agency hold.
